rp-splashIt’s Like Going On A Vacation Within The City’s Limits

Some clubs try to be Miami and some Vegas. While others try, Splash does. Opened in September 2009 this Ultra Lounge has been where Bostonians go for a destinationnight out without having to leave the city limits; think of it like a staycation.
You’ll walk in the front door and be greeted by General Manager Amalia Korom who will ask which room you’d prefer. The first floor holds the swanky main barroom, the Moët VIP room and the breathtaking Marble Room, named so because of the massive all marble bar. We opt for the roof deck and after one flight of stairs pass through the Billiard Room where there are two free tables and a fully stocked corner bar for the pool sharks. Then up another flight of stairs we find the roof deck in all its glory. On the 99 degree day I was there lounging in the open air was refreshing. The roof deck surpasses its potential being in the middle of downtown Boston. There’s no breathtaking view to speak of--unless the Expressway does that for ya--but the ambiance is unique.
Close your eyes and you’ll hear friendly chatter, low beats, swirling ice and faintly in the background you’ll hear the street noise down below. The roof deck has taken you up and away; you feel above Boston’s daily grind. Then with night fall the volume rises and the roof deck turns into a Miami-esque Ultra Lounge. Private cabana tents line the walls and surround couches and high-top tables all overlooking a bright blue lighted mini-pool with LED lighted fountains spouting. We feel like we’re in an episode of Miami Vice. And our striking server Diana makes us feel like guest stars with her attentiveness and charm.
One aspect that sets Splash apart is the cuisine. We start by ordering from the delicious Mediterranean Tapas menu. With stylish presentation we are brought Lamb Lollipops that are so tender it’s a miracle the meat has stayed on the bone long enough for you to pick it up. Then we scoop crisped pita bread into a spinach and artichoke dip that’s so rich and creamy it brings ricotta pie to mind. The taste of warm, fresh, REAL spinach has us eating like Popeye. The stand-out plate was the Seabass Skewers. A bright red sweet & sour sauce coats the blindingly white fish and creates a delicious combination.
As I relax on the roof deck washing down the tapas with a tall, cool Budweiser the burger menu catches my eye. Splash has a fun and innovative burger selection that seems to create a burger out of any and every type of food ranging from Salmon, Turkey, Lobster, Tuna, Veggie, Meatball and even to Bison Burgers! What can’t they do here?
But if you’re going to dine at Splash there is one must-eat item: the famous Splash Steak Tips. A healthy portion of bite sized tips coated with Executive Chef Gianni Caruso’s famous 3-day marinade. Garnished with half a grill toasted bun on top and a side of fries this entrée needs no flowery description telling you how tasty it is; they’re that good.
After our meal we stay for cocktails and take in the roof deck’s nighttime vibe. The wine list is short, just the bare essentials showing the manager has confidence in their picks. I pick up the cocktail menu and upon Diana’s suggestion I go with the Splash Signature Martini made with Bombay Saphire and St. Germain.
Maybe it’s the roof deck or the tapas, maybe it’s the music or our service--and maybe it’s the eye candy and Dr. Bombay- -but I’m feeling GOOD. Splash Ultra Lounge has satisfied with its all around versatility. Call ahead to make reservations for an intimate evening, a night out with friends or a corporate function. DWN more info
