The Top 5 Fun Runs in Boston
Looking for a more social approach to your fitness? Check out one of Boston’s best fun runs.
Recently, Boston was named the country’s second most fit city according to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). However many who live here, are totally unaware of the amazing social yet fit opportunities there are to be had.
As the home to the great Boston Marathon it should come as no surprise that the Hub has a huge running population. Local organizations and companies offer a variety of group runs that are open to the public for free! These runs are for people looking to improve their race times, increase mileage, meet new people, find motivation and accountability, even beginners who need a pointer or two.
Interested in checking one out? Here is a select list of the best free runs around:
Social Boston Sports:
Mondays at 6:30 pm, meets at McGreevey’s in Back Bay. Runners may do a 3, 5 or 7-mile loop. Hang around after for some beers! It’s encouraged!
lululemon:
Mondays at 6 pm, meets at Prudential Store. Mostly women runners go a 3-4 mi route.
South End Athletic Company:
Thursdays at 6:30 pm, Saturdays at 10 am. Meets at their store on Tremont Street in the South End. Thursday’s runs is a track workout, amazing for any runner who wants to improve their running, runners can go at their own pace, but think more interval than long boring distance. Enjoy complementary cocktails at their store after! Want more distance? Join in on Saturdays.
City Sports Boston:
Tuesdays at 6 pm at their Boylston Street location.
Nike:
Mondays and Fridays at 5:45 pm. Meet at their store on Newbury Street. Runners have the option of running 3, 5, or 7 mile runs. Refreshments are offered afterwards.
Some of these runs typically have between 5 to 100 runners but don’t worry, you don’t have to talk if you don’t want to.
Remember to take days off from your running to let your body heal. Try taking a yoga class at your local gym to stretch out any tight muscles, especially the hip flexors!
